LMCCA Xmas Party 09

The Melbourne LMCCA Xmas Party was very kindly hosted by Lorraine & Rick Morgan at their magnificent home at Hillside. The effort and preparation by Lorraine, Rick and friends left us all somewhat speechless. The spit roast and accompanyments were restaurant standard. Thanks also to the ladies that bought a plate and deserts, we ended up with more food than we really needed, but ensuring that nobody went home hungry. There were around 40 party goers consisting members, partners, friends & neighbours. It was good to once again see a few members that haven't been along for awhile like George and Ann Robertson in their well travelled & caravaned 1949 Mercury, Barry and Lynn Kemp as well as Glen Aitken. It was a pleasure having Rick take us on a tour of garages that included thenicest RHD MKIV and 64 Galaxie anywhere, as well as MKV's including a Diamond Jubillee, Town Car, Lorraines Cadillac and a couple of donor cars. Taking advantage of the gathering we incorporated our December general meeting into the occasion where President Gary Tyley outlined achievements during the year, goals for 2010, Docklands, BBQ trailer update and thanked committee & members for support. Summing up it was a memorable day made possible by the Morgan family, we allwish Rick a quick recovery from his illness.

Cora Lyn Sunday 4th October 2009

Apart from some light annoying drizzle at the start of our convoy to Cora Lyn the weather forecast of 19 degrees was correct and perfect.

Three convenient rendezvous points at Ringwood, Knox and Berwick on the way to Cora Lyn worked well. The journey was delayed slightly when Ryan picked up a nail in his rear tyre; despite the efforts of many hands and minds, the absence of a spare was the main problem and so it was a call for RACV roadside assistance that got him back on track to meet up later at the venue.

This was the 5th year for Cora Lyn and each year it has expanded. 2009 was to the limit of capacity and our 9.30am arrival put us someway from the nerve centre but at least on grass and pretty much together with room for the club marquee.

There was a good showing of 21 members in 13 cars.

Worthy of note were the 1st outings for two of our clubs newest cars; Andrew & Felicias 73 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible and Peter & Lynda Normans 79 Town Car both of which looked fabulous and performed perfectly.

Diamond Creek Town Fair

Saturday Sept 12th 2009

For the 3rd year LMCCA had been invited to join the festivities of the local Rotary organized Diamond Creek Town Fair.

We all met at the Eltham Hotel car park before a cruise to Diamond Creek. The 25 degree day was a reality but the weather man said nothing about an early 2 minute shower that rained a red dust and meant a frantic piece of chamois magic before the procession.

Ryan made his job harder after being caught with his convertible top down and having an interior to contend with as well.

The parade through the towns main street looked great! The cars were among the highly respected CFA crews that fought devastating bush fires last February, as well as displays from Ulysses Motor Cycle Club, Ford Car Club and many volunteer organizations.

The air suspension on Garys MKIV was working overtime & Ryan’s 66 convertible was bouncing up & down like a yo-yo. Eric almost perfected the air horn wolf whistle on the Crown Victoria and seemed happy that the police on duty didn’t flinch at the unrestricted exhaust set up. The woozy rose graphic on the continental kit now replaced by “The Fonz”

Peter & Linda clicked up their 2nd outing in the Cad’ coupe which was gleaming from hours of detailing, and as usual the graphics on John’s “Fools Gold” MKIV was a traffic stopper. Kevin rocked up in “ABE” still among the best unmolestered MKIV’s in existence, and we were also supported by Theo & Lucinda Vennix from the T/Bird club that joined us in their spectacular 58 Desoto.

Through Garys sheer perseverance we were moved from an allocated gravel (dusty) area to grass in the oval centre where we set up our marquee display. This proved fruitful as once again the LMCCA took home a trophy… Best commercial display. This is somewhat significant as the fair is not a car show and our display competitors were business’s that can easily out spend us.

The prank of the day seemed to be Ryans remote control air suspension set up that allows the driverless car to jump to attention when approached this seems to scare the crap out of unexpecting onlookers whilst providing a good source on entertainment to the perpetrator.

Peter Brock Foundation

Sunday 30th August 09

A late decision to support the Peter Brock Foundation at the Wattle Festival Hurstbridge (Vic) combined with torential rain the day before proved littleincentive for a blockbuster Sunday; supported by 6 die-hard members in 4cars, it was a cold day but at least the rain held off.Amidst a large turn-out of Holdens & Brock special builds our 4 Lincolnsclaimed more than their share of attention which was polarized with a numberof air suspension demonstrations from Ryan in his 67 convertible. It was the 1st outing for Eric & Gwen in their recently acquired MKVCollector Series purchased from a non member that advertised on our website;reports are the MKV performed perfectly and was a pleasure to drive. Thanks to Garry & Kerryn for bringing along the marquee, banners & flags etc(& John assisting with erection) which resulted in LMCCA taking home atrophy (once again) for "Best Club Display"Attendees, left to right.John Hull, 75 MKIVKerryn Doorbar/Gary Tyley, 72 MKIVGwen/Eric Hill, 79 MKVRyan Lednar, 67 Custom convertible
